Trauma & Complex Trauma

Not all trauma looks the same. Some people experience a single event that overwhelms the nervous system. Others carry the effects of complex trauma, which may come from prolonged or repeated experiences such as childhood abuse, medical neglect, systemic racism, or relationship harm.

Intergenerational trauma can also live in our bodies and stories, passed down through silence, survival, and adaptation. For many Black clients, these layers of trauma are deeply connected to our collective histories and cultural inheritance.

In this space, your story is not too much. You are not too much.

I use Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) and Black Narrative Liberation Therapy (BNLT) to support clients in making sense of their lived experiences. NET helps organize and process traumatic memories across the timeline of your life. BNLT offers a culturally grounded approach that affirms Black identity and centers storytelling as a tool of resistance and healing. Together, we uncover the ways trauma, resilience, joy, and struggle all coexist and how you can reclaim authorship of your story on your own terms.

This work is not about erasing the past. It is about naming it, honoring it, and finding power in the truth. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, emotional numbing, shame, or cycles that feel hard to break, we will move at a pace that feels safe. Healing is possible when your story is seen, held, and respected.

You do not have to carry this alone. Therapy can be a space where your truth is not just heard, but believed.

"You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them."
